What is the best telephoto lens for a Canon Digital Rebel XTi

Well, the "best" depends on your needs. The best lens performance is going to set you back a few thousand dollars, but since you are using an XTi I think it's not looking to spend that kind of cash. Some objectives you might want to research are the 100 EF-300 mm, the EF 70-300mm, and 100-400mm (and those fhotoace suggested). The three suggested I go in order of lowest price / performance even worse than the highest price / best performance.
