Ghost Hunting Basic Tips of the Day

horrorific_castle_halloween_wallpaper-54202The popularity of ghost hunting and paranormal investigation has increased greatly over the last few years. With great shows like Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International, how could you not want to give it a shot. Before you embark on a ghost hunt though, check out a few basic tips to get your started right.

Don’t go ghost hunting alone - Ghost hunts are usually done at night in dark, sometimes old, decaying and otherwise dangerous places. There are too many things that could happen if you went alone. What if you tripped and broke your ankle? What if you hit your head and got knocked out? What if you were bitten by some creepy critter and needed help? It’s best to go with a group of people, at least three is recommended, jsut to be on the safe side. You never know what or who you might encounter.

Take some basic safety gear with you -  Always have a working flashlight and  dress appropriately.  Walkie-talkies could come in handy, just don’t let them become a distraction.  It wouldn’t hurt to have a cell phone around either, although it may not work in all locations.

Follow the rules of the location -  If it says no tresspassing, then stay away.  It’s not your property and you should respect that.  Be sure to get permission from the owners before entering a posted or privately owned location.  If it is a public, open locations, don’t go in and trash the place.  I know this is common sense for most people, but there are those few….

Listen to your intuition -  We all have it, many of us just ignore it.  If your “gut” feeling is telling you that something isn’t quite right or possibly even dangerous, then leave.

No fancy equipment necessary – We’ve all seen the shows with all the fancy gear, flashing lights, buzzing, squeals and whatever.  These things are fun and cool to have, but they aren’t really necessary for ghost hunting.  I personally like to take pictures just to see what I might capture, but a camera is definitely not required.  Ghost hunting should be fun.  How much fun can you have if you’re paying all your attention to various electronic gadgets?  You might miss something.  It’s completely up to the ghost hunter how they choose to hunt.  Just remember to keep it fun.

See you next time.  Happy hunting!
